What is “Health Building”?
For me, “health building” is a play on the word bodybuilding. I started my fitness journey by adopting bodybuilding workouts and habits. Over the past couple years, however, I realized many of these habits were not healthy and not even the optimal training or diet practices for building muscle. In fact, I feel that many “health” or “fitness” trends today are bad practice or detrimental to long-term health. That’s why I’ve started this blog and labelled my practices as health building: my focus is becoming a fitter, healthier version of myself. While yes, one of my main focuses is still to build muscle, I am focused on doing so as a way to progress my fitness, a key component of which is strength. I define health building as all of the running; the hours I spend in the kitchen despite disliking cooking; the mobility work; the planned, structured weightlifting routines. Health building is a lifestyle of achieving our fitness goals in a way that not only achieves those goals but also furthers our actual health. You love exercising, so don’t you want to be doing it for a while?
About
Welcome to my blog! I’m Nick. I started this blog to keep myself motivated to continue learning and advancing my health and fitness knowledge. I intend to use this knowledge in my strength training and in training for obstacle course racing, one of my side hobbies. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience and currently work in neuroscience research with the plan of attending medical school next year. That being said, my posts are based on scientific literature. That doesn’t mean I’m right on everything! These posts will be my interpretation and understanding of the literature, but my comments and social media inboxes are always open for disputes, feedback, or questions. My goals with this blog are to share science-based health and fitness knowledge and hopefully get some thoughtful conversations going.
